Ventriloquism and Me …2023

It’s the very beginning of 2023 and we want to shout out a big “Hello!” to all of you and an even bigger “Thank you!!” for following us on our adventures!

2022 was very good to us as we travelled to Spencer, Indiana for the First International Ventriloquism and Arts Festival! Thanks to Steve Withem for inviting Magrau and Kamilla, Mindy the Mermaid and Shelly Seashell after seeing us at Vent Haven in Erlanger Kentucky in 2019! We had a lot of laughs on stage and off and performed with the greats, including Tony award winner Jay Johnson who I have always looked up to. It was a masterclass for me.

The puppets and I travelled quite a bit in the lower Mainland and Northern BC in 2022, touching down for shows and puppetry workshops. A few highlights include touring A Birdy Told Me So for schools in the Cariboo region, a tour of Burns Lake’s schools and their incredible Fall Fair, and Whistler’s Children’s Festival. Hundreds of puppets came to life at our many puppetry workshops; and my residency at Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School included working with new Bunraku-style table top puppets operated by up to 6 young puppeteers. We also worked with Dr. Amir Behboudi at Peace Arch Hospital to create six videos to help kids understand medical procedures, starring Magrau the bird, a dream come true for him.

What’s next? I’ve been creating new songs with my brother Rafe! Stay tuned for new songs and shows!

Last but not least more and more people have been contacting me to ask if I teach puppetry and ventriloquism. The answer is YES! I teach aspiring ventriloquists young and old from around the world and more students are always welcome!

Keep well everyone and have a beautiful 2023!

Kellie and puppets!
