Jumping into Autumn – School Shows, Puppet Workshops and Holiday Time!

The puppets and I had so much fun performing this summer, even if the season did go by in a blur. We performed several shows outdoors in the sunshine, laughing and dancing with kids and even a few grownups! Kamilla and Magrau were high-fiving as fast as their little hands and feet could manage.

Photo and chalk art thanks to @nacholoops

When we arrived at Confederation Park in Burnaby, BC to perform at the city’s Summer Stages series, we saw these AMAZING chalk drawings of Kamilla and Magrau on the playground next to the stage. A huge thank you to our Super Fans Nicole Hiebert & young Maribel!

VentFest 2024

In late June we traveled all the way to Spencer, Indiana, USA to be a part of VentFest 2024 where Magrau’s Uncle Artie had his stage debut. Artie’s been part of our troupe for a while now, and since arriving in our household he has become quite fond of another one of our gang, Mindy the Mermaid. While the other puppets traveled first-class in their new luxury suitcase and dressing room, Uncle Artie had himself mailed to Indiana just to tell Mindy how much he adores her! Shortly after Mindy and I took the stage, we began to hear a strange sound coming from a cardboard box sitting nearby. It was Uncle Artie’s muffled voice coming from inside! Once he was out of the box he began to declare his love for Mindy, but she wasn’t impressed. Poor Uncle Artie. Mindy has cast her mermaid spell on him and he will do anything for her, even if she wouldn’t give him the time of day. Oh well, that’s mermaids for you!

Ventriloquism and puppetry teaching ONLINE!

In-between shows this past summer, I continued to teach ventriloquism and puppetry on Zoom to new students and well as those I’ve taught for a few years. I now have taught students from India, Europe, USA, the United Kingdom and all across Canada. How cool is that?

School Shows and Puppet-making Workshops

Just before summer hit, we toured our musical ventriloquist shows A Birdy Told Me So and A Space To Play with ArtStarts in Schools which is a terrific organization based in British Columbia. We are very grateful to be on their roster of amazing artists, which includes musicians, dancers, acrobats, storytellers and magicians, among others (like ventriloquists!)

We are excited to book our shows for the new school year. You can book a musical ventriloquist show and add puppet-making workshops to the mix. We custom-tailor our packages to each school. If you have had us perform one show at your school, please consider our other show! Our puppet-making workshops give students the opportunity to create their own distinctive puppets, and create characters and voices for them. Once they’ve completed their puppet creations, the students learn puppetry techniques and can put together skits and plays for the class or even the whole school. We provide all the materials and tools, and expert hands-on assistance for the classroom. We are available for one day workshops and short or long residencies.

From Season to Season (turn turn turn…)

I don’t know exactly why time moves faster when you become a grown-up, but it sure does! Enjoy the beginning of the new school year, as summer moves into fall, bringing with it comfy sweaters, pumpkins, longer nights and frosty mornings. The next thing you know it’s beginning to look a lot like winter! So don’t forget to celebrate the holidays with our Journey To the North Pole a musical adventure to keep you laughing all the way (to the North Pole, of course.) We are booking now for holiday events! Give us a call! Soon enough we will need to “cue the spring.” I know, I know. I get ahead of myself. I think it’s in my nature. 😊
