I am very excited to write my first post for our new blog with the help of Magrau the bird and Kamilla the red haired frog of course. I wanted to start out by saying a great big thank-you to Rebecca @ sixty4media for bringing all of our ideas to life on this new and exciting website!! A thanks also goes out to our fans new and old who keep coming to our shows and enjoy getting caught up in on the fun and silly antics of Magrau and Kamilla. The puppets have little time for rest and are often found toe tapping on the computer keyboard while we are typing or hiding socks in the freezer. Our home is filled with props and set pieces and at Christmas time it feels like we live at the North Pole. I promise this blog will have lots of inside scoops on the puppets and their adventures, new songs, contests and more!
I am very grateful to have finished my second album called The Story of Me, Myself & I which celebrates childhood! This new CD comes out of my new puppet ventriloquist musical by the same name. The songs and musical storyline is about turning adversity and challenges into successes and never giving up! If you look at our School Show section you can see videos from the show as well as a link to Artstarts in schools where you can find our Study Guide and more. The CD cover reveals our new company logo designed by Chris Sagert which is also exciting. Guess what comes next? The album release party! (More info to follow!)
Come to think of it, I don’t remember what it was like to NOT be a ventriloquist or believe in the magic of puppets and the imagination. If you listen to the lyrics of the song 100 Frogs, I talk about following Kamilla down to the creek to play hide-and-seek. I grew up by a creek in Wainfleet Ontario and that vivid image of rolling down the hill to the creek came alive in my mind while writing the song. In my song I Want To Play, I talk about coming to sit with me by the Willow Tree which I still remember as a child. I visited that willow tree a few years back and it has grown to be 10 times larger than it was. So, my childhood has enriched my song writing. I still remember being 10 and I wanted to recreate that magical feeling of playing until the big light comes on in the back yard. Summer nights were long ones and even the rainy days were fun outside in the mud.
In my next post, I’ll be talking about the great experiences with Showcasing for Artstarts in schools and some back stage pics! My new musical means so much to me! Being different isn’t only okay, it’s extraordinary! Please come back to the site for more info on new songs and shows with a page for lyrics to sing to.
See you soon!
